Kate Middleton wore her new eternity ring in place of her engagement band in a touching family video announcing she has completed her course of chemotherapy.
The Princess of Wales revealed the news in an intimate three minute long video featuring Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as they enjoyed the outdoors, played games and walked through the woods.
A number of poignant shots show the Princess as she is driving through Norfolk, whilst others show her embracing the Prince of Wales as they relax on a picnic blanket on the beach. Notably, the royal mother-of-three is not wearing her engagement ring during the video; instead, she can be seen wearing an eternity band in its place.One commenter described Kate’s new ring as ‘a lovely alternative’ to her engagement ring, noting how it was ‘nice to have a ring with a lower physical profile for everyday casual wear.’
‘That sapphire band sure looks far more practical for daily living,’ wrote another, ‘and it sure is pretty.’The ring was first seen in public during the couple’s Olympic celebration video, when many speculated it could be the promise ring that Prince William gifted to Kate when they first started dating as students at St Andrews university.
Set in a rose gold Victorian band, the promise ring is adorned with the royal couple’s birthstones: pearls for the Prince, born in June; garnets for the Princess, born in January. Worn by a young Kate Middleton on the day of her graduation, the garnet gemstones are said to represent commitment, and pearls are known to be a symbol of innocence and purity.
A jewellery expert from Steven Stone has called the ring ‘priceless’ among the Princess of Wales’ ‘very high value jewellery collection’ due to its sentimental importance.
